AU Assistant Accountant (WFH | Dayshift)

The Assistant Accountant will initially support the company's internal accounting function, including leave coverage requirements and a MYOB-to-Xero migration project. The role will subsequently transition into the outsourced accounting services division, providing recurring accounting support and financial reporting services to a portfolio of hospitality clients.

This position is responsible for daily accounting operations, month-end financial activities, compliance support, and the delivery of accurate and timely financial information across multiple entities.

Internal & Client Accounting

  • Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and management accounting functions.
  • Process transactions, maintain financial records, and complete reconciliations.
  • Provide leave coverage and assist with the MYOB-to-Xero migration.
  • Manage recurring accounting tasks and deadlines across multiple client entities.

Daily Accounting Activities

  • Process hospitality POS daily takings, including Wirely integrations.
  • Process accounts payable through Lightyear and limited accounts receivable transactions.
  • Complete bank, clearing account, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Investigate and resolve transaction discrepancies.
  • Month-End Reporting
  • Prepare journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and capital expenditure schedules.
  • Prepare monthly management reports and investigate variances.
  • Produce supporting schedules for IAS and BAS lodgement preparation.

Compliance & Systems Support

  • Assist with superannuation exceptions, payroll tax reconciliations, and related documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with ATO requirements and internal procedures.
  • Support system implementations, process improvements, and workflow automation.
  • Collaborate with accounting, payroll, and HR teams, with potential client interaction as the role develops.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years' accounting experience in an Australian business environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards and ATO requirements.
  • Practical experience with Xero and MYOB.
  • Experience across AP, AR, reconciliations, journals, and month-end processes.
  • Ability to prepare accurate balance sheet reconciliations and financial schedules.
  • Strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines across clients or entities.
  • Comfortable working with multiple interconnected business systems.

Highly Desirable

  • Experience in outsourced accounting, bookkeeping, or managed finance services.
  • Hospitality industry experience (hotels, restaurants, clubs).
  • Experience with hospitality POS reconciliations and daily takings.
  • Exposure to Lightyear, Wirely, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with fixed assets, capex schedules, management reporting, and IAS/BAS support.
  • Knowledge of payroll tax, superannuation reconciliations, and exception handling.
  • Experience with accounting system migrations, particularly MYOB to Xero.
  • Familiarity with hospitality-specific software.
  • Progress toward CPA Australia qualification.
