Position Description:

We're looking for a detail-oriented and responsible individual to join our dedicated volunteer team as Treasurer. As Treasurer, you'll play a crucial role in overseeing the financial health of Aeon for Ocean, ensuring transparency and accountability in our mission-driven work. You'll work closely with the Board of Directors and other volunteers to manage our financial resources effectively and contribute to the long-term sustainability of our organization.

Your Impact on our Mission:

This position is critical to our mission, and the key responsibilities you will perform as a part of our Team include, but are not limited to:

  • Financial Oversight: Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions, including income and expenses.
  • Budgeting: Assist in developing and monitoring the annual budget, providing regular financial updates to the Board.
  • Reporting: Prepare monthly and annual financial reports, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Banking: Manage the organization's bank accounts, including deposits, withdrawals, and reconciliations.
  • Bill Payment: Process invoices and ensure the timely payment of organizational expenses.
  • Tax Compliance: Work with external advisors (if applicable) to ensure accurate and timely filing of all required tax forms.
  • Financial Policies: Contribute to developing and implementing sound economic policies and procedures.
  • Audit Support: Assist with any audits or financial reviews as needed.
  • Board Participation: Attend and actively participate in Board meetings, providing financial insights and updates.
  • Fundraising: Provide leadership to fundraising and grant writing teams

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

Along with passion for our mission, the successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and non-profit financial management.
  • Experience with bookkeeping software (e.g., QuickBooks) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information responsibly.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A passion for ocean conservation and the mission of Aeon for Ocean.
  • Previous experience as a treasurer or in a financial management role within a non-profit organization is a plus.

Applicants must also be able to attend periodic meetings conducted during regular business hours in the Central Standard Time (CST) Zone. We are looking for someone who can dedicate a few hours per week and commit for at least 6 months (though we’d love to have you even longer)!
