Ghostwriter for Substack & Lifestyle Blog — Personal Essays, Home, Food, and Starting Over - Contract to Hire
Overview
I’m a full-time content creator looking for a talented ghostwriter to help me write ongoing posts for my Substack and website.
My content centers around starting over in my 40s, creating a home, slow living, personal growth, solo life, food, travel, DIY projects, and the honest realities behind building a new chapter.
I already have the stories, ideas, videos, photos, and personal experiences. I need someone who can help shape them into thoughtful, engaging writing that still sounds completely like me.
This is not a role for generic blog content or heavily polished corporate writing. I want the posts to feel personal, warm, funny, vulnerable, conversational, and specific—like I’m talking to a close friend over coffee.
This could become a long-term position for the right person.
What You’ll Help With:
-Writing Substack newsletters and personal essays
-Turning YouTube videos, voice notes, outlines, and rough drafts into finished posts
-Writing lifestyle and story-driven website blogs
-Creating recipe posts with personal context and clear instructions
-Writing updates about home projects, travel, routines, food, and life
-Helping organize ideas into strong story arcs and recurring newsletter formats
-Repurposing existing content without making it feel copied or repetitive
-Light editing and polishing of drafts I write myself
-Adding headings, image-placement notes, links, and calls to action
-Maintaining a consistent voice across Substack and my website
-The Voice I’m Looking For
-The writing should feel:
-Personal and conversational
-Emotionally honest without being overly dramatic
-Warm, reflective, and occasionally funny
-Detailed and specific
-Natural rather than “perfect”
-Story-led, not generic or instructional
-Written in complete, flowing sentences—not short, clipped AI-style writing
-You should be able to preserve the way I naturally speak and write, including humor, imperfect thoughts, and personal observations.
Ideal Experience
You may be a great fit if you have experience with:
-Ghostwriting for creators, founders, or public personalities
-Substack newsletters
-Personal essays or memoir-style writing
-Lifestyle, home, food, wellness, or travel content
-Interviewing someone and capturing their voice
-Turning videos or transcripts into original written stories
-WordPress or website blog formatting
-Basic SEO without sacrificing personality
-Experience with content creators is helpful, but strong storytelling and voice-matching matter more.
Workflow
I may provide:
-Voice notes
-Rough outlines
-YouTube videos or transcripts
-Photos
-Personal stories and context
-Existing writing samples
-Notes about the tone and purpose of each post
-You would turn those materials into a polished first draft, then revise based on feedback.
-I’m looking for someone responsive, organized, open to edits, and comfortable learning a very specific personal voice over time.
Expected Workload
Initially, I’m considering:
-1–2 Substack posts per week
-1–2 website blog posts per week
-Occasional editing or repurposing of existing content
-The workload may grow depending on the fit.
To Apply
Please include:
-A short introduction
-Your experience with ghostwriting, newsletters, or personal essays
-Two to four relevant writing samples
-Your rate per article, per hour, or preferred package
-Your current availability and turnaround time
-How you approach learning and matching a client’s voice
-Whether you are comfortable working from videos, transcripts, voice notes, and rough ideas
-Please begin your application with the phrase:
“I know how to sound human.”
Applications that feel generic or clearly AI-generated will not be considered.
Paid Test
-Selected candidates may be asked to complete a paid test assignment using a real video, outline, or voice note. The test will help determine how well you capture my voice, story, and tone.
I’m looking for someone who wants to build a long-term creative partnership and become deeply familiar with my story, audience, and content.
