Junior Legal Counsel / Paralegal (AU Client)

About the Opportunity The primary goal of the Junior Legal Counsel is to support the Chief Legal Officer and Legal Counsel in executing legal tasks and projects, while also ensuring that such deliverables are compliant with all laws, regulations, and standards. The Junior Legal Counsel supports the growth and success of the client business by providing timely, accurate and professional legal advice to the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review commercial agreements.
  • Summarise key terms from commercial agreements.
  • Carry out legal research as required.
  • Draft and settle legal correspondence.
  • Draft initial copies of legal documents.
  • Review and report on upcoming changes to impacting legislation or regulation. Report any relevant case law.
  • As directed by the Department Leader, manage legal work briefed to external legal service providers.
  • Ensure the Department Leader is aware of events or matters which may impact brand.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of policies and processes for the company to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Adhere with Department procedures and practices.
  • Ensure the “Legal” Case Team is tagged on Salesforce chatter updates.
  • Completion of assigned duties and projects within agreed timeframes.
  • Ensure consistency with elected filing system.
  • Intellectual property registers accurate, and up-to-date.
  • Ensure all IP register updates are completed within one (1) week of change.
  • Training manuals and fact sheets up to date and reviewed at least annually.
  • Assist with the lease renewals process.
  • General administrative support such as managing inboxes, scanning and accurately saving legal documents, and any additional administrative support the legal team required.
  • Assist in updating internal legal training and guidance advice manuals and fact sheets.
Franchise Documents
  • Prepare and engross documents relating to franchise agreements (including occupancy rights).
  • Instruct approved external lawyers to prepare franchise documentation.
  • Provide general legal advice under the instruction and direction of the Chief Legal Officer with a commercial focus to internal stakeholders on general franchise issues.
Work, Health and Safety
  • Develop and review workplace policies and procedures.
  • Provide general legal advice under the instruction and direction of the Chief Legal Officer with a commercial focus to internal stakeholders on work, health and safety issues.
Contracts file management
  • Accurately record contract information.
  • Liaise with internal business units to obtain copies of relevant contracts.
  • Assist in creating, maintaining and managing the contract register.
What We're Looking For
  • At least 1–2 years of legal experience after admission to the Philippine Bar, ideally gained within an in-house legal team or a mid- to top-tier law firm.
  • Experience in one or more of the following practice areas: property, franchising, or commercial law
  • Sound knowledge of contract law, consumer law, and retail shop leases
  • Exposure to intellectual property, franchise, information technology, or finance law would be advantageous
  • Strong commercial judgment, analytical thinking, and the ability to provide practical, business-focused legal advice
  • Excellent legal research, drafting, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor degree from a recognised Philippine educational institution
  • Admission to the Philippine Bar and current good standing would be highly regarded
