About AI Training and Speech Data

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. People prepare and review examples such as audio transcripts so that modern AI systems can better understand speech and language.

This work offers a way to contribute to cutting-edge technology while working remotely with a flexible schedule.

  • Help improve speech and language AI through accurate human-reviewed data
  • Work with short audio clips and structured quality checks
  • Build experience in the growing AI training and data-labeling industry

The Role

OpenTrain AI is hiring native Japanese speakers currently located in Japan for long-term transcription and audio review work. You will listen to short Japanese recordings and create clean, standardized verbatim transcripts that reflect exactly what was said.

This is not translation or creative writing. Alongside transcription, you will complete listening-based verification tasks, including flagging unclear or unusable audio and marking segments that cannot be confidently understood using predefined options. Consistency and accuracy are more important than speed.

  • Data type: Audio
  • Work focuses on Japanese speech transcription and audio review
  • Pre-labeled data is not provided
  • Labeling includes text generation and evaluation or rating
  • Long-term, ongoing work for 12 or more months

What You’ll Do

You will follow detailed transcription guidelines and apply them consistently across short recordings. When audio is imperfect, you will use the required conventions and verification options rather than guessing or improvising.

  • Listen carefully to short Japanese audio clips
  • Produce accurate, standardized verbatim Japanese transcripts
  • Apply kanji, kana, okurigana, and punctuation conventions correctly
  • Identify unclear, unusable, or unintelligible audio segments
  • Complete predefined listening-based evaluation and verification steps
  • Maintain careful, consistent judgments across tasks

Requirements

This opportunity is for native Japanese speakers based in Japan who can maintain excellent written accuracy and follow strict instructions. Prior transcription experience is helpful but preferred rather than mandatory.

The required English level is native or bilingual. You must also be able to complete a short Japanese transcription screening sample before starting.

  • Currently located in Japan; Japan-based applicants only
  • Native Japanese speaker with native-level writing accuracy
  • Strong command of Japanese writing conventions, including kanji, kana, okurigana, and punctuation
  • Comfortable following detailed transcription rules without improvising
  • Able to handle imperfect audio and mark unclear sections appropriately
  • Prior transcription, captioning, subtitling, or speech data labeling and QA experience preferred
  • Reliable internet connection and a computer suitable for web-based tools
  • Quality headphones and a quiet working environment
  • Willing to complete a short Japanese transcription screening sample

Schedule and Availability

This is a part-time contractor role requiring approximately one hour per day, Monday through Friday. The schedule is flexible, so you can complete tasks at a time that works for you each day while maintaining the required daily cadence.

  • Approximately one hour per day
  • Monday through Friday
  • Less than 20 hours per week
  • Flexible daily timing within the required cadence
  • Long-term commitment of 12 or more months
