Rush Hour Energy Jamaica is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and highly analytical Power Systems Study Engineer to perform electrical system modeling and comprehensive engineering studies for the standby generator interconnection and electrical distribution system at Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA), Grenada.In this role, you will build, model, and analyze the electrical distribution system using both ETAP and SKM PowerTools, ensuring all protection, coordination, and equipment ratings align with the airport's MV/LV distribution and complex multi-generator paralleling requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- System Modeling: Develop and validate high-accuracy electrical system models in both ETAP and SKM PowerTools based on project tender documents, one-line diagrams, generator data, switchgear, and relay details.
- Core Engineering Studies: Perform short-circuit calculations, protective device coordination studies, and equipment interrupting/withstand rating evaluations against calculated fault duties.
- Generator & Paralleling Analysis: Model a 4-generator standby power system; evaluate generator fault contributions, paralleling/synchronization configurations, breaker coordination, and automatic transfer schemes across multiple operating scenarios.
- Deficiency & Protection Identification: Identify protection gaps, coordination issues, and system integration deficiencies. Develop recommended protective-device settings and clear engineering solutions.
- Deliverables & Reporting: Prepare calculations, study outputs, time-current coordination (TCC) curves, figures, and technical findings for direct integration into the final engineering report.
- Coordination: Participate in technical coordination meetings as needed to align with structural, mechanical, and MEP project stakeholders.
- Electrical Engineering degree (or equivalent power-systems engineering background).
- Advanced, hands-on working knowledge of ETAP and SKM PowerTools (both required).
- Proven track record in performing short-circuit, protective device coordination, and TCC curve analysis.
- Strong ability to interpret complex electrical one-line diagrams, relay information, and manufacturer technical data.
- Experience modeling multi-generator systems, standby power, and MV/LV distribution interfaces.
- Highly Organized: Strict discipline in file management, calculation logs, and documentation standardisation.
- Analytical & Detail-Oriented: Exceptional precision when validating equipment ratings, relay settings, and fault duties.
- Autonomous & Proactive: Able to work independently, execute quick revisions based on project feedback, and meet critical project deadlines.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) / Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent).
- Direct experience with mission-critical power systems (airports, utilities, data centers, or healthcare facilities).
- Strong familiarity with medium-voltage (MV) systems, paralleling switchgear, and automatic transfer schemes.
