As their project portfolio continues to grow, they are looking for an experienced Formwork Design Engineer to join their team and support the Lead Formwork Design Engineer in delivering temporary works designs across multiple construction projects. This is a long-term opportunity for someone who can contribute immediately and work confidently with minimal supervision.

About the Role
This position is responsible for the design, analysis, and documentation of temporary works systems, including formwork, falsework, shoring, and scaffolding solutions.You will play a key role in supporting the delivery of temporary works packages across multiple projects, taking ownership of engineering calculations, design documentation, and technical coordination while ensuring all solutions are practical, safe, and compliant with Australian Standards.
The successful candidate will take ownership of engineering calculations, temporary works design, technical documentation, and project coordination while ensuring all designs comply with relevant Australian Standards and engineering best practices. This role requires someone who can work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with Australian project teams.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Engineering
- Design formwork, falsework, shoring, and scaffolding systems for a variety of construction projects.
- Perform structural calculations for:
- Fresh concrete pressure
- Dead loads
- Live loads
- Wind loads
- Construction equipment loads
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant Australian Standards and applicable engineering codes.
- Assess constructability and installation methodologies during the design process.
- Exercise sound engineering judgement to develop safe, practical, and cost-effective temporary works solutions.
- Optimise designs to minimise material usage while maintaining structural integrity, safety, and constructability.
- Develop practical engineering solutions that support efficient project delivery.
- Apply sound engineering judgement to identify design risks and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Prepare detailed formwork layout drawings.
- Produce fabrication and assembly drawings.
- Create General Arrangement (GA) drawings.
- Prepare engineering design reports and calculation sheets.
- Develop erection and dismantling procedures.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation throughout each project.
- Ensure all documentation is complete, organised, and compliant with project requirements.
- Review architectural and structural drawings.
- Coordinate closely with:
- Structural Engineers
- Contractors
- Site Engineers
- Project Managers
- Resolve clashes between temporary works and permanent structures.
- Liaise with structural engineers, contractors, site engineers, and project managers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review Requests for Information (RFIs) and provide engineering input where required.
- Provide engineering support throughout the design and construction phases.
- Participate in project meetings and attend occasional site visits when required.
- Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes.
- Prepare engineering drawings using AutoCAD.
- Develop and coordinate models using Revit and other BIM software where required.
- Perform engineering calculations using Microsoft Excel and other relevant engineering tools.
- Produce accurate technical documentation using industry-standard software.
- Formwork design calculations.
- Formwork layout drawings.
- Shoring and falsework designs.
- Material Take-Offs (MTOs).
- Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
- Erection sequence drawings.
- Inspection checklists.
- Temporary works design reports.

- 7-10 years of Formwork Design Engineering experience.
- Proven experience designing formwork, falsework, shoring, and scaffolding systems.
- Strong structural analysis skills and experience performing engineering calculations for temporary works.
- Strong understanding of reinforced concrete construction and temporary works design.
- Experience preparing engineering calculations, technical reports, and detailed design documentation.
- Strong CAD drafting skills using AutoCAD.
- Experience using Revit.
- Experience working with BIM software.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for engineering calculations.
- Strong knowledge of Australian design standards, including AS 3610 or other applicable engineering standards.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, contractors, and construction teams.
- Ability to manage engineering tasks independently while working remotely.
- Availability to work Australian business hours.
- Experience working on Australian construction projects.
- Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Experience preparing Material Take-Offs (MTOs) and Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
- Experience developing erection and dismantling methodologies.
- Experience preparing temporary works risk assessments.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience working on commercial, civil, infrastructure, or industrial construction projects.
- Experience working with PERI, Doka, Meva, or similar proprietary formwork systems.
- Reliable high-speed internet connection suitable for remote work.
- High-performance computer capable of running engineering and CAD/BIM software efficiently.
- Dedicated home office with a quiet workspace for virtual meetings and focused design work.
- Ability to work independently from home while collaborating effectively with project teams through online communication tools.
- Availability to attend occasional site visits or office meetings when required.
- Deliver safe, practical, and compliant temporary works designs.
- Produce accurate engineering calculations and high-quality technical documentation with minimal revisions.
- Deliver detailed engineering drawings and reports within project deadlines.
- Collaborate effectively with the Lead Formwork Design Engineer and Australian project teams.
- Identify practical engineering solutions that improve constructability and material efficiency.
- Maintain high engineering and documentation standards across all projects.
- Contribute to the successful delivery of temporary works packages through proactive communication, technical expertise, and sound engineering judgement.
- Provide reliable engineering support to the Lead Formwork Design Engineer while contributing to the successful delivery of temporary works packages across multiple projects.
