Remote Medical Receptionist (AU Healthcare - Part-Time)

About the Role

We are seeking a professional and detail-oriented Remote Medical Receptionist to support our Australian healthcare practice. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional patient service, managing appointments, handling confidential patient information, and performing administrative tasks while ensuring compliance with Australian healthcare privacy and confidentiality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming phone calls and respond to patient enquiries professionally.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments.
  • Register new patients and maintain accurate patient records.
  • Manage emails, referrals, and correspondence.
  • Process cancellations, recalls, and follow-up appointments.
  • Verify patient information and update medical records.
  • Liaise with doctors, nurses, specialists, and other healthcare providers.
  • Perform general administrative and data entry tasks.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.
  • Ensure all administrative processes comply with Australian healthcare privacy requirements.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Medical Receptionist, Medical Administrator, or Healthcare Virtual Assistant.
  • Experience supporting an Australian medical practice is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Australian healthcare workflows and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of Australian Health Privacy Laws, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Australia) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and secure handling of health information.
  • Experience using medical practice management software (e.g., Best Practice, MedicalDirector, Genie, Cliniko, Halaxy, or similar) is an advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently in a remote environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Australian General Practice (GP), Specialist Clinics, Allied Health, or Medical Centres.
  • Familiarity with Medicare, referrals, and Australian healthcare administration processes.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of appointment billing and patient invoicing is an advantage.
