System Support Engineer – Azure Virtual Desktop

The ROHQ supports Quanta’s international expansion by sourcing and developing highly qualified workforce for Quanta companies in the US, Australia and worldwide. We are seeking a proficient, mid-level System Support Engineer based in the Philippines to support and operationalize our Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments, specifically Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring high levels of system availability, security, and performance, and will work closely with our onshore Enterprise Architecture and Infrastructure team as an extension of that team. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Operational Support: Provide day-to-day operational support for Azure Virtual Desktop environments during overnight Philippine hours, ensuring smooth and efficient operations for U.S.-based users across their business day. • System Monitoring & Incident Response: Monitor host pool and session host performance (including GPU-accelerated VM pools supporting engineering workloads), troubleshoot issues in real time, and escalate appropriately to maintain reliability of the VDI environment. • User Access Management: Manage user access to Azure environments, ensuring secure and efficient provisioning/deprovisioning. • Cost Management: Monitor costs incurred through Azure resource usage, flagging optimization opportunities. • Documentation: Maintain system documentation and Azure policies, ensuring all configurations and changes are well-documented and handed off clearly to the onshore team. • Technical Support: Provide remote training and technical support (via ticketing system, Teams, or phone) for end users with varying levels of IT knowledge, primarily during their working hours. • Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner closely with the U.S.-based Enterprise Architecture/Infrastructure team, participate in overlapping standups or handoff meetings, and provide clear shift-change status updates. • Stay Current: Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and issues in cloud technologies and VDI solutions. QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: Proven mid-level experience (typically 3+ years) as a System Support Engineer with a focus on Azure Virtual Desktop, including experience working in a remote/offshore support model supporting a U.S.-based organization. Technical Skills: • Proficiency in managing and maintaining Azure Virtual Desktop environments. • Strong understanding of cloud computing, virtualization, and VDI technologies. • Experience with Azure Resource Manager (ARM), Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), and related Azure services. • Knowledge of networking, storage, and security best practices in a cloud environment. • Experience with Nasuni file services and Azure storage solutions, including Blob Storage and Azure Files. • Familiarity with ITSM/ticketing platforms (e.g., Jira Service Management, ServiceNow) for incident and request tracking. Soft Skills: • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across time zones and cultures. • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision during overnight hours.
