WFH Construction Bookkeeper | QuickBooks & Project Accounting

Job Overview

This is a high-trust, autonomous role for a skilled Construction Bookkeeper | QuickBooks & Project Accounting to take full ownership of the financial records for two related businesses: a construction company and a real estate development firm. Both entities engage in government contractor projects, requiring meticulous tracking to ensure compliance and project profitability.

Schedule

  • Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM Eastern Time.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in QuickBooks for both construction and real estate development entities.
  • Track and categorize expenses by individual project to support project-level profitability analysis.
  • Manage accounts receivable for client payments and accounts payable for subcontractor invoicing.
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts monthly to ensure accuracy.
  • Monitor and record transactions related to government contractor projects with attention to compliance requirements.
  • Prepare financial summaries and reports as needed for business decision-making.
  • Communicate regularly with the business owner to clarify transactions and address questions.
  • Maintain organized documentation for audits and tax preparation.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a bookkeeper, preferably supporting construction or real estate businesses.
  • Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks.
  • Experience tracking project-based expenses and managing multiple cost centers.
  • Solid understanding of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping.
  • Excellent communication skills for regular check-ins with leadership.
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Bonus if you have experience with government contractor bookkeeping or compliance.
  • It helps if you've supported businesses with multiple entities or divisions.
  • Bonus if you're familiar with construction industry accounting practices.
