Position Purpose

The Bookkeeper is responsible for managing end-to-end bookkeeping services for a portfolio of clients while maintaining strong, professional client relationships. This role combines technical bookkeeping expertise with client communication, ensuring financial records are accurate, up to date, and compliant, while also providing proactive support and insights to clients.

Core and Non-Core Responsibilities

To guide performance expectations and effective prioritisation, this role's duties are categorised into Core (85%) and Non-Core (15%) responsibilities.

Core Responsibilities – 85%

  • Manage end-to-end bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients
  • Act as the primary point of contact for client bookkeeping queries
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records across all client accounts
  • Complete regular bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
  • Ensure BAS, GST, and other compliance obligations are prepared and supported on time
  • Produce or assist with basic financial reporting for clients
  • Communicate financial information clearly and professionally to clients
  • Identify and escalate financial discrepancies, risks, or unusual transactions
  • Maintain accuracy and consistency within accounting systems (e.g. Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks)
  • Support onboarding of new clients and setup of bookkeeping systems
  • Collaborate with accountants and internal teams to ensure smooth month-end and year-end processes

Non-Core Responsibilities – 15%

  • Participate in training and development
  • Contribute to process improvement ideas
  • Support team initiatives and projects

Key Expected Results

  • Accurate and up-to-date client financial records
  • Completed monthly reconciliations for all assigned clients
  • Timely processing of client transactions and reporting
  • Strong client satisfaction and responsiveness
  • Compliance obligations supported and met on schedule

Capabilities and Attributes

  • 3 years' experience in bookkeeping or accounting services
  • Strong communication skills with ability to explain financial information clearly
  • Proficiency in accounting software
  • High attention to detail and accuracy across multiple clients
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Strong problem-solving and client service mindset

Position Requirements

  • Certificate IV in Bookkeeping or Accounting (or equivalent experience)
  • BAS Agent Registration (preferred)
  • Basic understanding of accounting and tax principles
  • Strong work ethic and reliability
