WFH Senior Client Accountant (Bookkeeping, BAS & Management Reporting)

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Client Accountant (Bookkeeping, BAS & Management Reporting) to join our growing accounting practice. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with a diverse client portfolio and has strong expertise in bookkeeping, BAS preparation, payroll, management accounting, and leveraging technology to improve accounting processes.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing payroll, preparing Business Activity Statements (BAS), and delivering timely management accounts to support clients' business decisions. As our practice continues to adopt emerging technologies, we're looking for someone who is comfortable using AI-powered tools and embraces innovation to improve efficiency, accuracy, and client service.

This role requires excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm or 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (whichever the staff prefers, Australian Western Time) with a 30-minute unpaid break (40 hours per week)
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage end-to-end bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients.
  • Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) accurately and on time.
  • Process payroll, including superannuation, payroll tax, and Single Touch Payroll (STP) compliance.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
  • Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger records and ensure data integrity.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end financial processes.
  • Liaise with clients to obtain required financial information and resolve accounting queries.
  • Utilise AI-powered accounting and productivity tools to improve workflows, automate routine tasks, and enhance reporting where appropriate.
  • Review junior bookkeepers’ work and output.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and reporting efficiencies.
  • Ensure compliance with Australian accounting and taxation requirements.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in accounting or bookkeeping, preferably within an Australian accounting practice.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian bookkeeping, BAS, payroll, and GST requirements.
  • Experience preparing management accounts and financial reports.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, or Reckon.
  • Experience using or willingness to adopt AI tools to improve productivity and streamline accounting processes.
  • Solid understanding of payroll legislation, STP, and superannuation obligations.
  • Excellent reconciliation and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Relevant qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
